Counselor In Training (CIT)

The CIT program is a learning intensive program intended to help individuals who might want to become camp counselors make the transition from camper to staff member. Although the CITs have a great deal of fun and can participate in many camp activities, it also involves a large academic component. Our CIT program is for campers entering 11th grade (and who are between the ages of 16 and 18, unless the Camp Director has approved otherwise).

    Kirby Intern Team (KIT)

KIT is Camp Kirby’s comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for our interns who aspire to become future counselors. This volunteer program is designed for campers entering 12th grade(and who are between the ages of 17 and 18), and who have already completed the CIT program in the previous summer. Through a combination of hands-on experience, guided mentorship, and specialized training, KIT equips participants with the essential skills needed to lead confidently and create a positive, supportive environment for campers.

Day Camp Counselor Assistant Training (CAT)

This program gives older campers a chance to grow as leaders, learn new skills, and begin the transition from camper to counselor—all while still enjoying the fun and community of day camp.

The CAT program is a hands-on experience where participants will:

      • Develop leadership and communication skills through guided training sessions
      • Build confidence and responsibility in a supportive, camp-based setting
      • Shadow camp counselors and assist with younger groups
      • Still enjoy their favorite camp activities while having increased leadership opportunities.

The following year, as incoming 8th graders, individuals who have successfully completed the CAT program will be invited back as Counselor Assistants (CAs).
