Camp Fire Samish Receives Generous Donation From Tesoro

Tesoro LogoCamp Fire Samish is thrilled to announce that Tesoro Corporation donated $10,000 to support environmental education programming at Camp Kirby.

Camp Fire Samish and our community have long benefited from Tesoro’s generosity and passion for the environment.  Tesoro volunteers donate their time at Camp Kirby annually through the United Way’s Days of Caring and support many other environmental, educational and development initiatives.

“Being a good steward of our natural resources in the areas we live and work is vitally important to us and we are committed to supporting programs that promote environmental education,” said Tesoro Vice President & Anacortes Refinery Manager Dan Cameron. “We are proud to partner with Camp Kirby, an exemplary community resource dedicated to teaching our future leaders the importance of protecting our environment.”

Camp Kirby’s environmental education programs build appreciation for our natural surroundings through hands-on experiences.  The place-based learning experience allows youth a chance to apply new knowledge and skills through interactive exercises and games in the lush forests, pristine wetlands and unique beaches of Samish Island.  Young people gain a greater understanding of their world and acquire the necessary tools to make decisions for a sustainable world. Students generally attend camp for one to three days in the spring and fall.  Both day and resident campers participate in sound ecological practices and service learning during the summer.

“Tesoro has been a generous long-term supporter of Camp Fire Samish.  We are grateful to them for helping recapitalize our environmental education program and supporting local youth,” said Erin Baldwin, Executive Director.
