Camp Director Message

Greetings from Camp!

I hope that this email finds you all safe and healthy during this time. I wanted to reach out to provide some updates and resources for you regarding our 2020 Camp season.

Our Open House scheduled for this Sunday will now take place as a virtual event. We will be posting a video tour of Camp, and will be going LIVE on Facebook on 2PM on Sunday, April 19th to answer any questions that you may have about Camp. Unfortunately our Annual Spaghetti Feed has also been cancelled, but I will definitely be making spaghetti at home this Sunday, and invite you all to do the same. There is a 2nd Open House scheduled for Sunday, June 28th from 2PM-5PM.

Make sure that you are following us on Facebook and/or Instagram to get updates and resources as they become available. We ran a ‘Spring Break Virtual Camp’ on Camp Kirby’s Instagram last week that was full of fun and adventure. Those videos can be found in our Instagram highlights.

Our CEO has also been sending out weekly updates, via email, that you should be receiving. These may end up in your spam folder since they are coming from, who you may not have received emails from before. I’ve included an excerpt from her most recent email below, in which she spoke on our current summer camp planning.

In the midst of COVID-19, our first priority is the health and safety of our community. As a result, the office in Bellingham remains closed, our programming suspension has been extended through May 4th, and most staff members are home with their families.

Despite this time of uncertainty, we continue to plan for the summer camping season. Certifications, inspections, and repairs and maintenance on our facilities continue in hopes that we will be open in June. Most day and resident Camp staff members have been hired and are busy with online trainings, and meeting virtually with their peers and supervisors.

Management is also addressing additional precautions we will take this summer to keep our campers and staff, safe and healthy. We are working closely with ACA (American Camp Association), our insurance company, Camp Fire National, and all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

Some of the precautions and safety checks that we will either continue observing, or that will be added to our current procedures include:

Additional hand-washing stations throughout camp with scheduled times for each cabin group, under direct supervision of counselors.
An increased number of health care professionals, both on-site and on call.
Targeted education with campers regarding personal hygiene, social distancing, and other safety practices.
Added policies and resources for the quarantine of any campers/staff showing signs of illness.
Extra precautions regarding food and meal service.
Frequent ongoing surface sanitation.
Extended cancellation policies for campers with immune deficiencies and/or who are showing signs of illness in the 14 days prior to their camp session.

Please continue to monitor your email and our website,, for updates as we get closer to the Camp season. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, and I will do my best to answer them.
